# Futuristic Dining Tables Fireplace by Marti Guixe Cooks Food in Its Center By Meghan Young | Published 2011-08-27 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fireplace-by-marti-guixe References: [psfk](http://www.psfk.com/2011/08/marti-guixe-designs-fireplace-for-whirlpools-futuristic-lab.html) & [guixe](http://www.guixe.com/index.htm) The future of home cooking is captivatingly conceived in Fireplace by Marti Guixe. Although the name itself might throw you off at first, it doesn't actually involve a fireplace in the kitchen. In fact, this design concept is actually for a dining room table. It is named so because of its ability to heat itself so as to cook the food right in front of you at the table. Created for [Whirlpool Living Lab](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/maytag), a laboratory for futuristic ideas, Fireplace by Marti Guixe sports a typical surface off of which people eat. It is the addition of an adjustable hood, however, that is quite different. It not only acts as a sci-fi chandelier, it also interacts with the cooking basic in the center of the table to cook the meals. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 51% | Activity: 62% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Futuristic Dining Tables:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop dining tables that incorporate self-heating technology for cooking meals at the table. - **Interactive Chandeliers:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create chandeliers that have interactive capabilities and can be used in unconventional ways, such as cooking. - **Lab for Futuristic Ideas:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Establish a living lab for developing and testing futuristic concepts for various industries. ### Where This Applies - **Home Cooking:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate advanced heating technology into kitchen appliances to streamline and enhance the cooking process. - **Furniture Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the incorporation of functional features in furniture designs, such as heating elements for cooking. - **Lighting:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporate interactive features in lighting fixtures to create unique and versatile lighting experiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Communal Fireplace Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hearth-coffee-table.md) - [Slick Modern Holographic Fireplaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/holographic-fireplace.md) - [Mixed-Material Tabletop Fireplaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brasscene-harmony-flame-fireplace.md) - [Dining Table Fire Pits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tabletop-fire-pit.md) - [Freestanding Experimental Kitchens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/experimental-kitchens.md) - [Outdoor Carbon-Free Cooking Kitchens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/transspecies-kitchen.md) - [Technologically-Advanced Grills](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kitchen-of-the-future-three.md) - [Futuristic Kitchen Appliances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-on2cook.md) - [Communal Outdoor Cooking Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-grill-table.md)
