This simple yet innovative [fire stone lighter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tabletop-lighter) lets you easily ignite a fire without the need for newspaper or kindling.

The 'George & Willy Fire Starter' system is inspired by Alaskan whalers from the 18th century who used whale fat as a way to ignite their camp fires. A porous ceramic fire stone is soaked in an oil-filled vessel, and when lit on fire, produces a generous flame for 15 to 20 minutes at a time.

Simply place the stone under some [firewood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/backyard-firepit) and remove it when the fire is ignited, making sure to let it cool down before placing back in the vessel. This quick and easy system can use everyday [lamp oil](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fire-capsule-oil-lamp) available at a local hardware store, and the vessel only needs to be refilled two to three times a year for easy to light fires.
