# Cosmic Mixed Media Creations Finnian MacManus Illustrates Galaxies Using Controlled Chaotic Style By Jason Soy | Published 2011-11-18 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/finnian-macmanus References: [fmacmanus.deviantart](http://fmacmanus.deviantart.com/) & [fmacmanus](http://fmacmanus.com/) Finnian MacManus pretty much has the coolest name I've ever heard, but did you also know that he's the artist behind these amazing [kaleidoscopic paintings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-flow)? The Chicago, Illinois illustrator is world renowned for creating masterful pieces using a variety of media to depict anything from the cosmos to obscure Greek deities. Abstract? You bet! But also highly visually stimulating and engaging. It's extremely difficult to describe Finnian MacManus' art style as it greatly differs from one piece to the next. Sure, similar motifs and themes related to space are still there, but one minute you'll get a crisp [digital painting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yolo-paint) of an otherworldly fortress and the next you get a Yoshitaka Amano-esque watercolor piece that's chaotic visually, but masterfully executed. To be able to excel at all these different styles speaks of MacManus' talent as a true visionary. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.6/10 - Popularity: 51% | Activity: 49% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Mixed Media Art:** Opportunities for innovation could involve combining different artistic mediums to create unique and visually stimulating artwork. - **Cosmic Art:** There is potential for disruption by exploring new ways to represent the cosmos through art, pushing boundaries and creating immersive experiences. - **Abstract Illustration:** Exploring unconventional and abstract styles of illustration opens doors for innovative interpretations and captivating visual storytelling. ### Where This Applies - **Art:** The art industry could benefit from embracing mixed media techniques and abstract styles to create unique and engaging artworks. - **Entertainment:** The entertainment industry can disrupt traditional visual storytelling by incorporating cosmic art and abstract illustrations in movies, video games, and virtual reality experiences. - **Design:** Incorporating cosmic and abstract art styles into design can create visually striking and immersive products, spaces, and graphic designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sci-Fi-Inspired Classical Posters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sen-donnan.md) - [Color-Blending Kinetic Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/felipe-pantone.md) - [Mesmerizing Sculpture Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mesmerizing-sculpture.md) - [Apocalypse Post Pandemic Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/contemporary-urban-art.md) - [Space-Exploration Artful Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kosmos-exhibition.md) - [Vibrantly Colorful Dynamic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kayla-rumpp.md) - [Physics-Informed Digital Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/motion-sculpture.md) - [Juxtaposing Artful Collaborative Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sea-galaxy.md) - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md)
