# Marvelously Monstrous Street Art Filthy Luker Brings Eccentricity to Everyday Scenes By Josh Triantafilou | Published 2012-04-30 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/filthy-luker1 References: [juxtapoz](http://www.juxtapoz.com/Current/street-art-attacks-by-filthy-luker) & [filthyluker.org](http://filthyluker.org/) Bristol, United Kingdom-based artist Filthy Luker has more than just a curious moniker. He has a talent for turning ordinary streets, parking lots, parks and corners into [surreal forays of the imagination](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/your-psychoacoustic-light-ensemble). From [tentacles popping out of buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-week-at-the-knees) to trees with giant googly-eyes to over-sized banana peels splattered on the sidewalk, Luker puts a decidedly whimsical spin on everyday life. What is perhaps most impressive about the [street artist's work](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dish-pics) is the sheer scale of it. It's one thing to happen across some interesting graffiti or an odd sculpture, it's another to see tentacles that would be at home on a giant squid bursting out of buildings. Still, this is not to say that Luker's work is overbearing. Rather, it has all the imagination and curiosity one would expect from a life-size cartoon. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.5/10 - Popularity: 95% | Activity: 93% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Whimsical Urban Art:** Opportunity for artists to create public installations that engage and delight. - **Giant-scale Artworks:** Artists and creators could utilize unique architecture and landscapes to create impressive, oversized installations. - **Playful Creativity:** There is a growing desire for public art that brings joy and childlike wonder to everyday environments. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Tourism:** Cities can use whimsical urban art to attract visitors and enhance the tourist experience. - **Advertising:** Brands can use giant-scale art to create attention-grabbing outdoor ad campaigns. - **Real Estate:** Developers can leverage playful creativity to transform underutilized spaces and revitalize urban areas. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Distorted Furniture Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/first-kiss-at-last-light.md) - [Bubblegum Street Art Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hubbabubbabuilding.md) - [Playful Pop Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/louis-vuitton-octopus.md) - [Spiky Inflatable Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inflatable-sculptures1.md) - [Gas Rig Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/striking-art-installation.md) - [Vibrant City Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/craig-karl2.md) - [Inflatable Vibrant Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forest-dancer.md) - [Tree-Integrated Mysterious Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tree-mural.md) - [Artful Cartoonish Canal Bridges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canal-skybridge.md)
