The result is a delicious coffee drink that designer Naveesh Khattar and Naveen Kesavan have created a simplified filter for. The '[UFO](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lufo) Filter Coffee' mug was created by the designers at [MIT's](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yzipper) [Institute of Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/puma-nitro-lab). The mug has two functions -- to make and hold filter coffee. It works by adding a coffee ground-filled module at the top and pouring hot water through the module. When milk and sugar are added, this mug holds a simple cup of coffee that was made with relative ease. The packaging of this product shows popular brewing methods, the benefits of coffee consumption and some coffee-related facts. This quirky product simplifies the process of making coffee for the sake of time and to minimize effort. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 66% | Activity: 75% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Health](https://www.trendhunter.com/health) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Simplified Coffee Filters:** The simplified filter coffee design presents an opportunity to create a line of automated coffee-making products for busy individuals. - **Smart Coffee Mugs:** The UFO Filter Coffee mug has multifunctional abilities, which could inspire the development of smart coffee mugs that offer brewing and storing capabilities. - **Eco-friendly Coffee Filters:** The reduction of paper filters through the use of the UFO Filter Coffee mug design could ignite the coffee industry's interest in eco-friendly filter alternatives. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Coffee Accessories:** The creation of the UFO Filter Coffee mug product presents an opportunity to expand the coffee accessory product line with simplified brewing methods and eco-friendly alternatives. - **Kitchen Appliances:** The simplification of the filter coffee brewing process lends itself to potential product opportunities for automated kitchen appliances for coffee-making and other brewing methods. - **Packaging Industry:** The packaging of the UFO Filter Coffee mug could inspire sustainable packaging design alternatives in the industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Single-Cup Coffee Brewing Wands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/finalpress-v2.md) - [Single-Cup Workstation Coffee Makers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brewster-dcm5000.md) - [Character Coffee Makers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-moky.md) - [Twisting Coffee Brewing Mugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/qterra-craft-travel-brewer.md) - [Centrifugal Force Coffee Makers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kuku-maker.md) - [Spiral Coffee Brewers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/italian-moka-coffee-pot.md) - [Tranquil Design Coffee Makers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zenbrew-coffee-maker.md) - [Sleek Pour-Over Coffee Makers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pourover-coffee-maker1.md) - [Portable Espresso Coffee Brewers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brewpin.md)
