# File-Sending Tools Magic Wormhole is a New File Transfer System That Uses Vocal Passwords By Alyson Wyers | Published 2017-06-29 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/file-transfer-system References: [techcrunch](https://techcrunch.com/2017/06/27/magic-wormhole-is-a-clever-way-to-send-files-easily-and-securely/) & [github](https://github.com/warner/magic-wormhole) This file transfer system is a way to send stuff from one computer to another, safely. Developed by Brian Warner, Magic Wormhole "avoids all the complications of third-party tools, intermediary servers, logins and passwords, making a shortlink, worrying about making a file temporarily 'public' or fiddling with permissions, and so on" according to [TechCrunch](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rocket-launches). Only minimal software is required and that both you and the receiver are online before a few simple steps are followed. The file transfer system can be downloaded from a [GitHub](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tinymind) project page, where you can also contribute code. The package includes a library and command-line tool that enables the sharing of files. Magic Wormhole demonstrates the desire people have to share files simply without sacrificing any privacy. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.9/10 - Popularity: 39% | Activity: 40% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Computers](https://www.trendhunter.com/computers) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Simple File Transfer Systems:** Opportunity to create easy-to-use file transfer systems that avoid third-party tools, intermediary servers, logins, and passwords. - **Minimalist Software Solutions:** Opportunity to develop software solutions that require minimal software to transfer files between computers. - **Direct P2P File Transfer:** Opportunity to create file transfer systems that allow direct peer-to-peer communication without using intermediary servers or third-party tools. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **File Sharing:** Opportunity for companies in the file sharing industry to develop easy-to-use file transfer systems that avoid the complexities of third-party tools, intermediary servers, logins, and passwords. - **Software Development:** Opportunity for companies in the software development industry to create minimal software solutions for file transfer and sharing. - **Information Technology:** Opportunity for companies in the information technology industry to develop direct peer-to-peer file transfer systems that don't require intermediary servers or third-party tools. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Encrypted File Transfer Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/encloak-hide.md) - [Secure File Transfers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/transferrocket.md) - [Serverless File Sharing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/filefling.md) - [Large File-Sharing Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/droppable.md) - [Encrypted File Sharing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lockbridge.md) - [Large File Transfers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/large-file.md) - [Digital File Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fulltransfer.md) - [LAN File-Sharing Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airclap.md) - [Creative File Sharing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/digital-asset-sharing.md)
