# Paddle-Like Lighting Arnaud Lapierre's Field Lamp is Inspired by a Drawing of Movement By Meghan Young | Published 2011-07-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/field-lamp References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/field-by-arnaud-lapierre/) & [arnaud-lapierre](http://www.arnaud-lapierre.com/) Although the Field lamp may look like it was inspired by table tennis paddle rackets, it was actually inspired by [a simple drawing of movement](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ripple-light). Although not full of movement itself since it takes on a rather stiff pose, the lines engraved into each lamp does denote a feeling of direction. Created by French designer Arnaud Lapierre, the Field lamp is [simple and sophisticated](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-lighting-design), with a feminine playfulness that is emphasized by the pastel palette used for each design. Each Field lamp emits a soft, white light that shines upwards from its slim base, diffusing along the expanse of the [thin, flat shade surface](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flat-light). Looking at each Field lamp, I feel they would fit nicely into an open and airy home. The Field lamp won the 2011 Audi Talents Awards prize. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.8/10 - Popularity: 28% | Activity: 18% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Paddle-inspired Lighting:** Innovative lighting designs being inspired by unexpected objects like table tennis paddles. - **Engraved Lamp Designs:** Etched patterns on lamps give off unique feelings of movement and direction. - **Pastel Lighting Palettes:** Sophisticated lighting designs using pastel colours to add a feminine playfulness. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunities include creating unique lighting designs that add depth and colour to a space. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunities lie in creating artful and innovative lighting designs that can blend seamlessly into any home decor. - **Architecture:** Disruptive innovation opportunities include incorporating unique and artistic lighting designs into architectural features of a building. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Umbrella-Inspired Whimsical Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wasaga-lamp.md) - [Hat-Like Fabric Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flying-lamp.md) - [Elegant Metal Perforated Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foreshadow-table-lamp.md) - [Modern Dynamic Structural Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/horizon-table-light.md) - [Perforated LED Table Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lume.md) - [Mushroom-Inspired Sleek Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lunar-lamp-concept.md) - [Rippling Aquatic Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pulse-lights.md) - [Lantern-Inspired Soft Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fermob-lighting.md) - [Plant-Inspired Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palmetto-lamp.md)
