# Surreal Miniature Photography The Fiddle Oak Miniaturized Self-Portraits are Fantastical By Akihiko Tse | Published 2013-09-10 | Life-Stages Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fiddle-oak-miniature-photography References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/zev-self-portraits-little-folk) & [flickr](http://www.flickr.com/people/fiddleoak/) Fiddle Oak (Zev) has enchanted us with his photography before, but the 14-year-old continues to mesmerize with photos from his 'Little Folk' [self-portrait series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/still-life-1). The teenager from Natick, Massachusetts betrays his relative youth with [photos that depict](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nonnas-cam) him [miniaturized to the same scale](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/world-of-miniverse) of a leaf or a paper crane as he explores the expansive, spellbinding world around him. While there is no denying Fiddle Oak's talent, the impressions the photos create produce a sense of mystical adventurism, as well as a deep and spirited path towards self-discovery. While Fiddle Oak's Flickr account mentions that "he is lonely and loves getting flickrmail," the photos show him to be enjoying a youthfulness that culminates in him sitting in an acorn, walking into a gulf of flames and playing violin while perched on the edge of a rock. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.3/10 - Popularity: 76% | Activity: 45% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Life-Stages](https://www.trendhunter.com/life-stages) > [Youth](https://www.trendhunter.com/youth) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Miniaturized Photography:** Developing technology and techniques to create miniaturized photography will allow for more creative and immersive storytelling opportunities in various fields such as advertising and marketing. - **Fantastical Self-portraits:** Creating fantastical self-portraits like those of Fiddle Oak can provide a unique and personalized way for individuals to showcase their creativity and personality through photography. - **Mystical Adventure:** Incorporating elements of mysticism and adventure into various forms of media, such as movies and video games, can provide an immersive and captivating experience for the audience. ### Where This Applies - **Photography:** Developing technologies and techniques to create miniaturized photography can greatly impact the photography industry, allowing for more creative and immersive storytelling opportunities. - **Advertising:** The use of miniaturized photography and fantastical self-portraits can greatly impact the advertising industry, providing unique and eye-catching visuals that will capture the attention of viewers. - **Entertainment:** Incorporating elements of mysticism and adventure into various forms of media such as movies, video games, and literature can provide an immersive and captivating experience for audiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md) - [Stunning Origami Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-portaits.md) - [Collectible Mini Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/photo-creator-mini-cam.md) - [Miniature Artful Hip-Hop Landmarks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/danny-cortes.md) - [Whimsical Childlike Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-eternal-child.md) - [Nature-Surrounded Miniature Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-mini.md) - [Public Art Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paul-anthony-smith.md) - [Kid-Designed Sculptural Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/galerie-philia.md) - [Nature-Inspired Minimal Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/capture-the-light.md)
