# Looping Pedestrian Overpasses Festina Lente Bridge is Inspired by Secularity and Spirituality By Meghan Young | Published 2013-02-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/festina-lente-bridge References: [inqmind.co](http://www.inqmind.co/2013/01/the-festina-lente-bridge-will-throw-you-for-a-loop/) & [amila.ba](http://www.amila.ba/) The Festina Lente Bridge is the physical result of a competition held five years ago. Design students Adnan Alagić, Bojan Kanlić and Amila Hrustić won the competition to design the bridge while studying at the [Academy of Fine Arts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nook-room-dividers). Now it spans 38 metres over the Miljacka river in Sarajevo, Bosnia, just outside of the institution. A rather minimalist design except for the playful loop in its center, the Festina Lente Bridge was inspired by the fact that the Academy was formerly a church. The designers state, "The basic idea of the bridge is the union of the secular and spiritual," adding, "The [loop on the bridge](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/looptheloop-boat) is a symbolic gate." The loop also provides a [shelter with two seats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/resting-loop-with-views). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.7/10 - Popularity: 11% | Activity: 3% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Minimalist Bridge Design:** The Festina Lente Bridge showcases the trend of minimalist design with its simple yet functional structure. - **Integration of Secular and Spiritual:** The bridge exemplifies the trend of integrating secular and spiritual elements in architectural designs, offering a unique and meaningful experience for users. - **Symbolic Gate Design:** The loop on the bridge represents the trend of incorporating symbolic elements into architectural structures, creating a distinctive visual and conceptual impact. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture and Design:** Architecture and design firms can explore disruptive innovation opportunities by adopting minimalist principles in their projects, incorporating symbolic elements, and creating spaces that integrate secular and spiritual elements. - **Urban Development:** Urban development companies can leverage the integration of secular and spiritual elements in bridge designs to create architectural landmarks that contribute to the cultural and aesthetic appeal of cities. - **Tourism and Travel:** The Festina Lente Bridge demonstrates the potential for tourism and travel industries to capitalize on unique architectural designs that provide visitors with an immersive and contemplative experience. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Spirally Viewpoint Bridge Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/g-clef-bridge.md) - [Pedestrian Viaduct Extension](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vincent-boutin.md) - [Welded Steel Cantilevered Footbridges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-footbridge.md) - [Sculptural Pedestrian Bridges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/asiatdarse.md) - [Triple Path Footbridges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/three-waves-footbridge.md) - [Bridge-Defining Tranquil Cities](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mindfulness-city.md) - [Ljubljana Steel Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/water-sculpture-lj.md) - [Bamboo Indonesian Learning Centers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-living-bridge.md) - [Artful Cartoonish Canal Bridges](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/canal-skybridge.md)
