# Deceptive Map-Like Portraits The Federico Lombardo Series Addresses the Problems With Appearance By Jordy E | Published 2012-03-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/federico-lombardo References: [5piecesgallery](http://www.5piecesgallery.com/) & [federicolombardo.net](http://www.federicolombardo.net/next_exhibitions.htm) Switzerland’s 5 Pieces contemporary art gallery has unveiled Federico Lombardo’s [sketches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drawing-series) to the public, an incredible [experiment in deception](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ripples-collection). Federico Lombardo’s [mixture of painting with drawing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/painting-exhibition) appears at first glance to be a representation of beautiful women. Blonde and brunette illustrations capture women of various ages with bare shoulders and elongated necks, a seductive and daring choice. However, allure and beauty are only some of the themes upon which these images stand. The Lombardo series addresses the issue of deceit. Although the women all appear to be docile if not angelic beings, they speak to the fact that appearances often hide deep and dark secrets. Perceptive purity may be solely perceptive and far from real, which is why these faces are supposed to be interpreted as maps. According to Federico Lombardo, the deconstruction of these maps will reveal untold emotion. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.4/10 - Popularity: 23% | Activity: 71% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Customization](https://www.trendhunter.com/customization) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Deceptive Portraits:** Opportunity for artists to explore the concept of appearance and its hidden meanings in their artwork. - **Mixing Painting and Drawing:** Innovation opportunity to combine different artistic mediums to create visually intriguing pieces. - **Interpretive Art:** A trend of creating artwork that encourages viewers to interpret and uncover hidden emotions. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art Galleries:** The art gallery industry can showcase and promote deceptive portraits and other innovative artwork. - **Fine Art:** An industry that can adopt and embrace the trend of mixing painting and drawing in their artworks. - **Art Education:** Opportunity for art educators to explore the concept of interpretive art and teach students how to create thought-provoking pieces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Human Duality-Themed Abstract Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/passive-aggression.md) - [Geometric Sculpture Boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/illusion-box.md) - [Glamorous Artful Bronze Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sweet-jane.md) - [Optical Illusion Replica Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/liberty-science-center.md) - [Laser-Cut Urban Artistry](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laser-cut-city-maps.md) - [Striking Glass Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-portraits.md) - [Raunchy Anime-Inspired Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/manuela-soto-sosa.md) - [Structured Art Shows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flowchart.md) - [Reimagined Puzzled Artful Paintings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portrait-of-a-woman-in-a-hat.md)
