# Wooden Frame Lighting The Featherlight Hanging Lamp is Inspired by Model Planes By Meghan Young | Published 2012-11-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/featherlight-hanging-lamp References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/vederlicht-hanging-lamp-by-daniel-hulsbergen/) & [danielhulsbergen](http://www.danielhulsbergen.com/work_featherlight.html) The Featherlight Hanging Lamp may look like an unfinished light fixture, but it was purposely crafted to allow the wooden frame to take precedence over any other material. Inspired by a childhood love of [model glider planes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cygnet-light), the light incorporates the same materials found in those kits. This includes balsahout, oracover (shrink film), ceramic and fabric wrapped cord. The use of the shrink film gives the illumination a [soft glow](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightmass). Created by Daniel Hulsbergen, a designer based in Waalre, The Netherlands, the Featherlight Hanging Lamp was also crafted using the same techniques required to build a model plane. Nevertheless, its framework takes on a shape more akin to a house, the Featherlight Hanging Lamp. It is available five colors including white, beige linen and balsa. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.7/10 - Popularity: 71% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Wooden Frame Lighting:** Home decor industry can explore the use of wooden frames as an innovative design element, creating lighting solutions that catch the eye and enhance the overall ambiance of any space. - **Inspired by Model Planes:** Toy and model industry can leverage nostalgic influences to create innovative and unique products that appeal to both adults and children alike. - **Soft Glow Illumination:** Lighting industry can focus on developing soft, ambient lighting products that create a relaxing and comfortable atmosphere in homes and offices. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Home Decor:** Home decor industry can use wooden frames to create unique lighting solutions that elevate the design aesthetic of any living space. - **Toy and Model:** Toy and model industry can explore the use of materials found in model planes to create special and nostalgic products, attracting a wider range of customers. - **Lighting:** Lighting industry can develop products with soft glow illumination, enhancing the ambiance and comfort of any living or work space. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Twisting Timber Lampshade Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twisted-lasercut-wooden-lampshade.md) - [Origami-Inspired Suspended Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sora-pendant-light.md) - [Folded Timber Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flatpack-timber-lamp.md) - [Organic Paper-Like Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/farolito.md) - [Silkworm-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phantom-lighting.md) - [Metal Thread Pendant Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nest-lamp.md) - [Sculptural Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp.md) - [Suspended Origami-Like Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sora-light.md) - [Organic Cloud-Like Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/khmara.md)
