# Renaissance Painting-Inspired Furniture The Feast in the House of Simon Collection is Modernized By Meghan Young | Published 2013-04-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/feast-in-the-house-of-simon References: [fastcodesign](http://www.fastcodesign.com/1672295/a-modern-table-lifted-straight-from-a-renaissance-painting) & [fiftytwothousand](http://www.fiftytwothousand.com/) When it comes to inspiration, a popular place to start is the past, and that is exactly where the Feast in the House of Simon furniture collection was born. Named after the [Renaissance painting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/7-paintings-the-art-of-dining) that spawned the line, the pieces are near replicas of the table present in the artwork. Designed by Mark Moskovitz, the Feast in the House of Simon furniture collection came into fruition quite by fluke. During an award fellowship spent in Berlin, Moskovitz was in the habit of roaming around the city for inspiration. One day he found himself in the Gemaldegalerie, revealing, "I’d never trolled paintings for [design inspiration](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pratone-chair) so it was random, but I locked in on the table leg. It was really striking how different it was from others of this era and how modern it looked." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 17% | Activity: 9% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Renaissance-inspired Furniture:** Opportunity for furniture designers to create modern pieces inspired by historical art. - **Art-inspired Design:** Potential for artists and designers to find inspiration in paintings and create unique products. - **Historical Replicas:** Growing market for reproductions of historical furniture with a modern twist. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Design:** Potential for furniture designers to capitalize on the trend of creating modern pieces inspired by Renaissance art. - **Art and Design:** Opportunity for artists and designers to explore art-inspired design and create innovative products. - **Home Decor:** Growing market for historical replicas with a modern touch in the home decor industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Jewelry-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/through-chrome-reflections.md) - [Artwork-Inspired Dining Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/d12-dining-table.md) - [Modernist Artful Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/colendra.md) - [19th-Century-Inspired Seating Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scottish-designers.md) - [Expansive Modern Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/veritas-collection.md) - [Charming Time Period-Inspired Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/collection-i.md) - [Vibrant Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vibrant-furniture-collection.md) - [Artist-Honoring Bedroom Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/esquisses-collection.md) - [Fruit-Inspired Furniture Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fruitinspired-furniture-collection.md)
