# Glass Box Residences Fearon Hay Architects Creates an Incredibly Open House Design By Meghan Young | Published 2015-06-22 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fearon-hay-architects References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2015/06/22/a-double-height-glass-box-overlooking-the-ocean-by-fearon-hay-architects/) & [fearonhay](http://fearonhay.com/) Fearon Hay Architects has designed a stunning house that looks more like a showcase piece than an actual livable space. Yet since it is surrounded by nature, the residents won't feel so exposed in the glass box that is meant to shelter them. Utterly luxurious and contemporary, it boasts floor-to-ceiling windows that happen to make up all of the walls as well. Located in Auckland, New Zealand, Fearon Hay Architects aptly dubbed the design Cliff House. Maximizing the views, the two-storey glass castle contrasts with the natural surroundings in a stark way. The interior is predominantly made up of concrete and other stone details. One of the best features of the house is the bathroom where a free-standing shower is located next to the bath in a very unassuming way. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.5/10 - Popularity: 91% | Activity: 67% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Luxury Residential Design:** A trend in creating architectural designs that prioritize luxury and contemporary aesthetics in residential spaces. - **Integration of Nature and Architecture:** A trend in incorporating natural elements into architectural designs, such as using glass walls to blend indoor and outdoor spaces. - **Open Concept Living:** A trend in creating living spaces that promote openness and maximize views through the use of floor-to-ceiling windows and minimalistic interior design. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture and Design:** Opportunities for architects and designers to explore and implement new techniques in luxury residential projects. - **Construction and Real Estate:** Opportunities for innovative construction methods and property development, catering to the demand for high-end, open-concept living spaces. - **Interior Design and Home Decor:** Opportunities for designers and retailers to curate furniture and decor that aligns with the open concept and luxury aesthetic of glass box residences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Modern Concrete Hayfield Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/759-house.md) - [Hilltop Modern Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-cloud-house.md) - [Clear Glazing Compact Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/check-patterned-house.md) - [Warm Timber Coastal Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-lookout.md) - [Meadow-Overlooking Sleek Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studioac-1.md) - [Coastal Metal Minimal Dwellings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rk-residence.md) - [Faceted Cedar Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-house-on-a-hill.md) - [Picturesque Modern Holiday Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ligar-bay-bach.md) - [Cantilevered Mountain Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brutal-honesty.md)
