Farto is a Portuguese [street artist](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paul-anthony-smith) whose muse is people’s faces, which he likes to etch onto walls by chipping away bits of paint and plaster until only [realistic visages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-portraits) remains. He calls the process “destruction,” as he segments parts off the wall and lets pieces fall away in a controlled manner. What’s most impressive about Farto’s art is his ability to define value and shadow using the limited resources of an old wall as his medium. Farto is also masterful in capturing the expressions and emotions of each subject’s face. The only question that remains is whether these [Farto graffiti pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rusto) will endure, since an additional chipped piece or a simple wall repair can potentially destroy each piece. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.0/10 - Popularity: 90% | Activity: 82% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Graffiti](https://www.trendhunter.com/graffiti) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Chipped-paint Graffiti:** Opportunity to explore unconventional art techniques and create unique urban art installations. - **Broken Wall Art:** Potential for artists to embrace the deteriorating environment as a canvas for creative expression. - **Expressive Street Art:** Rise of street artists who focus on capturing emotions and facial expressions through their murals. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Urban Art:** Art galleries and public spaces can showcase and support the growing trend of chipped-paint graffiti. - **Building Restoration:** Opportunity for companies specializing in restoring and preserving deteriorating walls with artistic elements intact. - **Emotional Design:** Brands can draw inspiration from expressive street art to create emotionally resonant products and experiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Evolved Vibrant Graffiti Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jan-kalb.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Stunning Origami Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-portaits.md) - [Collaborative Monochromatic Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/collaborative-monochromatic-art-exhibition.md) - [Enigmatic Graffiti Incidents](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/enigmatic-graffiti.md) - [Miniature Artful Hip-Hop Landmarks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/danny-cortes.md) - [Leftover Househouse Paint Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paint-drop.md) - [Whiskey-Themed Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/upfest.md) - [Tree-Integrated Mysterious Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tree-mural.md)
