# Scenic Wood-Paneled Homes The Far Pond House is a Durable Yet Panoramic Sanctuary By Vasiliki Marapas | Published 2014-05-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/far-pond-home References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2014/05/01/far-pond-by-bates-masi-architects/) & [batesmasi](http://www.batesmasi.com/portfolio/far-pond.html) If you need to seek refuge from the pressure of public life, look no further than the Far Pond Home by [Bates Masi Architects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/three-mile-harbor). This single family residence in South Hampton, New York, is a [wood-paneled sanctuary](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sadowski-house) that shields you from all the trials and tribulations of social life. The architects added an addition to the 1970s kit house, opting for contrast within the panelized system. The architects used [prefabricated shear wall panels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/1807-holiday), which they left exposed for a decorative element. The structure of the perforated panels alters the natural lighting within the house, depending on the way it hits the apertures during any given time of day. The architects' approach to the construction of the home meant they used less material to achieve a stronger structural capacity, ultimately making it more sustainable. In terms of design aesthetic, the house is warm and family-centric. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.4/10 - Popularity: 86% | Activity: 67% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sustainable Wood-paneled Homes:** Exploring prefabricated and repurposed materials for aesthetic and environmental benefits. - **Perforated Paneling for Dynamic Lighting:** Designing houses with perforated panels for creating diverse daylighting experiences. - **Family-centric Modern Design:** Creating calming and peaceful environments for family homes using contemporary design approaches. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Integrating innovative construction materials and techniques for building sustainable and visually stunning homes. - **Interior Design:** Creating unique and dynamic interior spaces that combine aesthetics and function using perforated paneling and natural lighting. - **Real Estate:** Offering sustainable and family-centric homes in a competitive housing market by using modern design and construction techniques. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Meadow-Overlooking Sleek Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studioac-1.md) - [Tree-Lined Striking Modern Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/palette-architecture.md) - [Prefabricated Timber Barn Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/north-fork.md) - [Contemporary Countryside Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/contemporary-countryside-home.md) - [Gabled Cedar Paneling Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cotton-patch-hills-house.md) - [Cedar-Clad L-Shaped Beach Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ospreys-landing.md) - [Dark-Green Minimal Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scalar-architecture.md) - [Faceted Cedar Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-house-on-a-hill.md) - [Rural Charred Modern Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stanfordville-house.md)
