Being part of a [sports fandom](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/no-better-feeling) instantly provides shared interests and common ground that makes connecting with strangers easier, prompting Heineken to launch Fans Have More Friends. This new global campaign, built on the belief that fandom is one of the fastest ways to get connected to strangers, was inspired by a book of the same name by Ben Valenta and David Sikorjak.

Heineken teamed up with Zac Alsop for a [social experiment](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/out-host-with-hisense) to see if fans would show up for one another when it mattered. As part of the experiment, Joe, an Australian living in New York, was faced with watching [Liverpool](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/erdinger) play Qarabağ FK in the final group match of the UEFA Champions League alone, but Zac handed out flyers inviting fans to watch the match with Joe. As a result, hundreds of people in New York City showed up to support a fellow member of their community they'd never met before.
