# Faux 3D Floor Covers The BKS Fanion Rugs Figuratively Pop Off the Floor By Michael Hines | Published 2013-02-25 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fanion-rugs References: [dezeen](http://www.dezeen.com/2013/02/24/fanions-rugs-by-bks/) & [b-k-s.ch](http://www.b-k-s.ch/Welcome.html) Don't feel ashamed if you thought that the Fanion rugs were actually three dimensional. These clever floor covers were created by BKS, a design group made up of three designers: Dimitri Bähler, Linn Kandel and Ismaël Studer. The word "Fanion" means fringes in French and perfectly describes the way in which BKS made these rugs look as if they were standing on top of the floor. The best part about the Fanion rugs is that the [three dimensional look](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/exodus) is achieved so effortlessly. Angling [fringes into a rug](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/strata-collection) is apparently all you need to make it look 3D. The rugs were shortlisted in the [D3] Contest for young designers at imm cologne, although they did not end up winning. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.1/10 - Popularity: 75% | Activity: 71% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Home](https://www.trendhunter.com/home) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Faux 3D Flooring:** Designers creating rugs that mimic the look of three-dimensional flooring. - **Innovative Rug Design:** Designers using unique techniques to create visually stunning rugs. - **Perception-defying Designs:** Designs that play with the viewer's perception of space and depth. ### Who This Affects Most - **Interior Design:** Innovative rug designs that create impactful and memorable spaces. - **Home Decor:** Perception-defying designs that create conversation pieces in the home. - **Flooring:** Faux 3D designs that create the illusion of more expensive and intricate flooring options. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Optical Illusion Carpets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-3d-carpet.md) - [Desert-Inspired Floor Coverings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dune-rug.md) - [Abstract Geometric Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/discorectangle.md) - [Dynamic Bold Graphic Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eley-kishimoto.md) - [Exquisite Textured Rug Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/textured-rug.md) - [Mesmerizing Artful Patterned Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electtrico-collection.md) - [Gem-Inspired Illusion Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gem-rug-collection.md) - [Floral-Inspired Home Rug Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magical-garden.md) - [Patterned Artisanal Hand-Tufted Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/giro.md)
