The [American Society for Microbiology](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wood-for-the-trees) recently recreated several [famous works of art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/painting-exhibition) using [microscopic bacteria](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cellcycle-flaw) and Petri dishes. The drawings showcase a way to turn scientific findings into art by rearranging the colored cells to copy the shapes, styles and hues from famous paintings.

These bacteria paintings are part of the American Society for Microbiology's art competition that asks scientists to submit in drawings of anything they'd like using bacteria. Such submissions include a rendition of Vincent Van Gogh's famous illustration Starry Night using several Petri dishes and carefully placed orange, blue, navy and white cells to mimic Van Gogh's iconic swirled painting style. Other entries include a butterfly on a flower and the popular Police Box from Doctor Who.
