The main objective of the addition was to [facilitate art throughout](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/galeria-house) areas of work and play, while simultaneously respecting the aesthetic of the original structure. To do so, the designers tore down walls and opened up brand-new spaces that created internal vistas and connections throughout the interior. Each space is related to one another in some way, ensuring a flexible, informal and social internal arrangement. The home's "light court" is the relief point within the home, in which the "old" and "new" meet and transition, fluidly and seamlessly, to create a space that is cohesive yet abstract in its form. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.5/10 - Popularity: 97% | Activity: 61% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Flexible and Connected Spaces:** Constructing connected spaces that promote flexibility, informality and social interaction in residential buildings while preserving the original structure. - **Art-inspired Architecture:** Incorporating art seamlessly into living spaces to create a fluid and cohesive environment. - **Modern Extensions:** Designing contemporary extensions to older homes to create seamless transitions while maintaining their overall aesthetic. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** Developing and incorporating new concepts and ideas in residential living spaces to improve their functionality and beauty. - **Architecture:** Innovating modern and contemporary designs that respect the original structure of older buildings. - **Real Estate:** Creating value in properties by introducing new designs, spaces, and aesthetics that improve their livability and marketability. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sleek Garden-Edge Renovations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/waverley-house.md) - [Timber-Clad Home Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thornbury-house.md) - [Adaptive Family Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carlton-cottage-extension.md) - [Illuminated Curved Home Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cereus-house.md) - [Flexible Family Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-simple-addition.md) - [Lush Garden-Focused Melbourne Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gardeners-house-1.md) - [Living Landscape Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hedge-and-arbour-house.md) - [Spacially Contrasting Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/barwon-heads-house.md) - [Vertically Ruptured Juxtaposing Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tear-away-house.md)
