# Snarled Stick Fixtures The Falo Lamp is a Modern Piece that Alludes to Utilities of the Past By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-02-13 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/falo-lamp References: [notcot.org](http://www.notcot.org/post/46135/) & [kurtmerkijr](http://kurtmerkijr.com/main/en/projects/industrial-design/il-flao/) Designer Kurt Merki Jr. expresses nostalgia surrounding the comforting wood fire. Through his Falo Lamp, he conceived an icon and a symbol that emanates with all of the marvelous meaning which is gradually turning to ash. The bright orange flames of a campfire or a hearth's golden glow in the home were once more necessities and a genuine comforts than they are in Western lifestyle today. This [abstract floor lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/corium-standing-floor-lamp) was created to serve as a reminder of the old respect people had for fire, standing tall and assertive as a [visually striking tangle of sticks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flatpack-timber-lamp). The form mimics that of a bonfire but it's expressed with a [contemporary minimalism](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hoop-table-lamp), cleanliness and class. The Falo Lamp's LED illumination beams from thin strips along each intertwined branch, casting a diffuse luminescence from a corner, or even within a converted fireplace. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.9/10 - Popularity: 22% | Activity: 28% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Nostalgia-inspired Lighting:** Opportunity for designers to create contemporary pieces that reference the past. - **Fire-inspired Design:** Innovative products can be created that reference the traditional comforts of fire. - **Minimalist Lighting:** Designers can utilize simplicity and clean lines in their lighting creations. ### Where This Applies - **Interior Design:** Opportunity to incorporate unique and modern pieces into interior spaces. - **Lighting Design:** Opportunity to create innovative and visually striking lighting pieces. - **Home Decor:** Innovative lighting pieces can enhance the overall look and feel of a space. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Bonfire-Inspired Indoor Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iri-lamp.md) - [Sculptural Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp.md) - [Task-Managing Dynamic Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fall-lamp-concept.md) - [Modern Dynamic Structural Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/horizon-table-light.md) - [Incense-Mimicking Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/incense-lamp.md) - [Hollow Candle-Like Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lampe.md) - [Archetypal Conical Light Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragile-lamp.md) - [Tornado-Inspired Illuminator Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/storm-lamp.md) - [Bamboo Forest-Inspired Floor Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightbone.md)
