# Fake Phone Number Services 'Fake Number Club' Lets Users Turn Down Unwanted Texts and Calls By Joey Haar | Published 2016-09-13 | Lifestyle Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fake-number-club References: [techcrunch](https://techcrunch.com/2016/09/11/thanks-but-no-thanks/?ncid=rss) & [fakenumber.club](http://fakenumber.club/) The [dating scene](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/offline-dating-experiences) can be unfortunately ruthless, and 'Fake Number Club' is a service that helps people show at least some momentary mercy. The service is a generic phone number that will automatically respond to [calls and texts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/automaticall) with a message indicating that the number is a dud. A text to Fake Number Club will receive the blunt yet concise reply of "We're sorry, but you were given a [fake number](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/my-sms-check) because the person who gave it to you did not want you to have their real phone number." If someone chooses to call the number, a recorded message will read the same note, only adding, "I'm sure you're a wonderful human being...Please do not take this to heart." Though the messages would surely be disparaging for a hopeful romantic, the system is still likely easier on one's feelings than being shut down on the spot. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 14% | Activity: 38% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Romance](https://www.trendhunter.com/romance) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Automated Rejection:** Developing automated rejection systems in various industries can save time and minimize discomfort in communication. - **Privacy Protection:** Creating services that provide temporary contact information can help individuals protect their privacy and avoid unwanted communication. - **Blunt Communication:** Embracing direct and upfront messaging can be a disruptive innovation opportunity in industries that involve sensitive or uncomfortable interactions. ### Who This Affects Most - **Online Dating:** Implementing fake number services in online dating platforms can enhance user privacy and reduce awkward interactions. - **Sales and Marketing:** Adopting automated rejection systems can streamline sales processes and allow sales representatives to focus on more promising leads. - **Customer Service:** Integrating blunt communication approaches in customer service interactions can improve transparency and manage customer expectations. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Virtual Phone Numbers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/2nd-phone-number.md) - [Privacy-Enhancing Alternative Phone Numbers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alternative-number.md) - [AI Dating Exit Plans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/exitcall.md) - [Anti-Ghosting Dating Sites](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/after.md) - [AI Dating Aid Bots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wittywingman.md) - [Therapeutic Breakup Bots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/text-your-ex1.md) - [Calendar Simulation Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fakeappointmentcom.md) - [AI-Aided Social Networks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/befake-ai-social-network.md) - [Online Dating Anti-Ghosting Features](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/snack-anti-ghosting.md)
