# Vibrant Shadow Art Artist Fabrizio Corneli Plays with Light and Dark By Meghan Young | Published 2014-01-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fabrizio-corneli References: [neatorama](http://www.neatorama.com/2014/01/13/Fabrizio-Cornelis-Shadow-Art/) & [fabriziocorneli](http://www.fabriziocorneli.com/) The work of Fabrizio Corneli plays with light and dark in ways that are truly creative. First of all, although it is true that without light there can be no shadow, Fabrizio Corneli's particular use of light is quite mesmerizing. Whether it involves a [copper knob attached to a wall](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polyshape) that when viewed head on looks like a bright ball of fire that an insubstantial man appears to be holding or an anagram on the side of a building, which is readable only because of the shadows created, it is hard not to be mesmerized and even awed. Born and based in Florence, Italy, Fabrizio Corneli "overturns the common understanding of the relationship between [light and shadow](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shapes-of-light) in his works the light is the agent of the apparition, but the shadow that evokes and defines the image," writes Silvia Evangelisti. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.0/10 - Popularity: 76% | Activity: 35% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Light and Shadow Manipulation:** Opportunities for exploring new artistic expressions by playing with light and shadow in unconventional ways. - **Optical Illusions:** Utilizing light and shadow to create mesmerizing visual effects that engage and captivate viewers. - **Perception-altering Art:** Challenging traditional notions of light and shadow to evoke awe and provoke contemplation through innovative artistic techniques. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art and Sculpture:** Incorporating light and shadow manipulation techniques into different art forms to create unique and immersive experiences for art enthusiasts. - **Architecture and Design:** Integrating the play of light and shadow in architectural structures and building designs to create visually stunning environments. - **Photography and Cinematography:** Exploring new techniques in lighting and shadow manipulation to capture captivating and illusionary photographs and film shots. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Illuminated Curtained Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/making-the-invisible-visible.md) - [Tree Branch-Formed Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/celestial-attraction.md) - [Desert Reflective Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shadow-travelling.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Lightning-Inspired Artful Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bright-light-shining.md) - [Elegant Metal Perforated Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foreshadow-table-lamp.md) - [Tubular Shadow Play Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flos-emi-lighting-collection.md) - [Emotional Light Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/miror-collection.md) - [Artistic Shadow Play Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frero-tala-asa.md)
