# Volcano-Inspired Lighting The Eyjafjallajokull Lamp Takes on the Infamous Icelandic Eruption By Meghan Young | Published 2011-06-21 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eyjafjallajokull-lamp References: [fastcodesign](http://www.fastcodesign.com/1664101/a-lamp-inspired-by-the-infamous-iceland-volcano) & [pulsceramics](http://www.pulsceramics.com/miaegoransson.htm) The Eyjafjallajokull Lamp may seem to have quite a crazy name, however, if you follow news headlines, it will probably be familiar to you. That's because this [table lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/juba-tl1-table-lamp) is actually named ofter the infamous Iceland volcano of the same name that happened to erupt last May, causing chaos for its neighboring European countries as well as its own land. Created by Swedish ceramicist Mia Göransson, the Eyjafjallajokull Lamp evokes a sense of the threat of nature. Although quite stunning in its eccentricities, the [oversized bulb](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-balloon-lamp) of the Eyjafjallajokull Lamp is balanced by a [nebulous mass](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/evening-sky) that represents the cloud of ash that resulted from the eruption. The Eyjafjallajokull Lamp is Göransson's first foray into product design and is a continuation of her nature-themed creations. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.7/10 - Popularity: 12% | Activity: 2% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Volcano-inspired Lighting:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create innovative lighting designs that are inspired by natural phenomena. - **Nature-themed Creations:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop unique products that incorporate elements of nature into their design. - **Eccentric Lighting Designs:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design lighting fixtures that challenge traditional aesthetics and offer unique visual experiences. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Introduce unconventional lighting designs that add a touch of novelty and surprise to interior spaces. - **Artistic Ceramics:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Combine traditional ceramic techniques with artistic elements to create one-of-a-kind ceramics with functional and aesthetic appeal. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the fusion of art and functionality in home decor by designing unconventional yet functional lighting fixtures. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Naturally Inspired Digital Candles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magma-lamp.md) - [Volcanic-Themed Light Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stone-archive.md) - [Tornado-Inspired Illuminator Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/storm-lamp.md) - [Volcanic Lighting Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lighting-installation.md) - [Molten Glass Lighting Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foscarini-1.md) - [Melt-Resembling Portable Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/melt-light.md) - [Scenic Architecture Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/architecture-inspired-table-lamp.md) - [Eclipse-Inspired Whimsical Pendant Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/space-traveler.md) - [Quirky Common Item Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/table-lamp-lighter.md)
