Smartphone storage is moving more towards being cloud-based thanks to services such as iCloud from [Apple](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/case-x), but the transition over to it has been slow in terms of adoption rates. Many users are opting to use built-in storage alone or in combination with cloud storage rather than just the latter option. The Hubo externals storage drive allows users to backup their smartphone using a USB stick or an external hard drive. The Hubo, which is now available for preorder on [Kickstarter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/onemodern-m6), enables users to store their data locally and maintain their usage without interruption. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.7/10 - Popularity: 4% | Activity: 9% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/mobile) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Cloud-based Smartphone Storage:** Explore opportunities for developing cloud-based storage solutions for smartphones to address the slow adoption rates of current services. - **Hybrid Storage Solutions:** Consider creating hybrid storage options that combine built-in storage with external storage drives to offer users flexibility and uninterrupted usage on their smartphones. - **Smartphone Backup Solutions:** Develop innovative smartphone backup solutions, such as USB sticks or external hard drives, to provide users with convenient and reliable data storage options. ### Who This Affects Most - **Cloud Storage Services:** Opportunities for improvement and innovation in cloud storage services for smartphones, specifically focusing on simplifying the transition to cloud-based storage. - **External Storage Device Manufacturing:** Expanding the market for external storage devices like USB sticks and hard drives by creating high-quality and user-friendly options with smartphone compatibility. - **Smartphone Backup Solutions Providers:** Enter the market of smartphone backup solutions providers by offering reliable and easy-to-use backup solutions to ensure users never run out of storage space on their devices. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Mobile Device Photography Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/thephotostick-omni.md) - [Laptop-Attached Hub Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/case-x.md) - [Multifunctional External Storage Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/onemodern-m6.md) - [Portable Photo Storage Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/photocube-pd-plus.md) - [Magnetic Smartphone Storage Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hacray-magdrive.md) - [Trackable Mobile Storage Expansions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/planck-studio-ssd.md) - [SSD-Integrated USB Hubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/satechi-hybrid-multiport-adapter.md) - [Micro-Sized Mobile Device SSDs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/planck-ssd.md) - [Data-Storing Computer Hubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/external-ssd-drive.md)
