UK designer Michael Lambourn came up with his ingenious [exploding Smart Lock](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-lock-technology) to encourage people to keep up this healthy and gas-saving activity by deterring bike thieves. The device quickly secures both the wheels and the frame. If the lock is cut, a colored liquid is explosively released, marking both the thief and the ground. It is in essence a forensic lock which helps identify the thief if he or she is caught soon enough. The marked ground also advertises vulnerable parking spots. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.9/10 - Popularity: 4% | Activity: 76% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Lifestyle](https://www.trendhunter.com/lifestyle) > [Health](https://www.trendhunter.com/health) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Smart Lock Technology:** Developing advanced locking systems that utilize technology to deter theft and protect personal property. - **Forensic Locks:** Creating locks that leave a unique marking when tampered with, aiding in the identification and capture of thieves. - **Personalized Security Solutions:** Designing customizable security measures that provide a tailored approach to protecting valuable belongings. ### Who This Affects Most - **Cycling Equipment Industry:** Exploring opportunities to integrate smart lock technology into bicycles and accessories to improve bike security and encourage more cycling. - **Forensics Industry:** Collaborating with lock manufacturers to incorporate forensic features into locks, enhancing the ability to track and apprehend thieves. - **Personal Security Industry:** Developing personalized security solutions for individuals and businesses that offer advanced features and tailored protection. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Three-in-One Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/multifunctional-bike-lock.md) - [Slap-Band-Inspired Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/slapstick-smart-bicycle-lock.md) - [Impenetrable Cyclist Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/litelok-x1.md) - [Discreet Connected Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/laas-olock.md) - [Indestructible Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldylock-forever.md) - [Collapsible Ultra-Secure Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-lock.md) - [Real-Time Monitoring Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elios-crossover-lock.md) - [Helmet-Friendly Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/abus-combiflex-travelguard.md) - [Hidden Seat Bike Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lockinvisible.md)
