# Nature-Inspired Writer Workspaces Erin Moore Builds a Remote Writer Shed for Her Writer Mother By Tiffany | Published 2013-12-11 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/erin-moore References: [mymodernmet](http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/erin-moore-off-the-grid-writers-retreat) & [floatwork](http://floatwork.com/) Surely nothing is more inspiring than having Oregon-based architect and university professor Erin Moore build a writing studio for her mother Kathleen Dean Moore, also a professor and nature writer. The 'Watershed' was built from a need -- a need "to write and observe the delicate wetland ecosystem on the banks of the Mary's River in Oregon." The Watershed is a welcome retreat from the modern day as all of Moore's writing is done by hand; computers aren't allowed! The beautiful [red cedar writing studio](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moss-rock) has a [fabricated steel black frame](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atelier-nyp) with glass windows and concrete. The modern wooden cabin is stylish as it is functional -- just what Kathleen wanted. The result is a welcoming [solitary retreat](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-offgrid-house) and more importantly, it is completely off the grid. On the intention of the shed, Kathleen says, “[t]he goal was to figure out how to live on the land without spoiling it,” Kathleen told Dwell. “I find myself writing more and more about silence out here. I find myself wanting to tell stories about how wild places can comfort us." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.8/10 - Popularity: 57% | Activity: 78% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Nature-inspired Writer Workspaces:** Creating writer workspaces inspired by nature can provide a calming and inspirational environment for writers. - **Off-the-grid Retreat Spaces:** Building remote retreat spaces that are off-the-grid can offer individuals a peaceful and disconnected environment for focused work and reflection. - **Handwriting and Analog Writing:** Embracing handwriting and analog writing methods can enhance creativity and deepen the writing experience for writers. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture and Design:** Architects and designers can explore creating nature-inspired workspaces and retreats that blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment while providing a functional and aesthetically pleasing space for individuals. - **Green Building and Sustainable Construction:** The construction industry can focus on creating off-the-grid retreat spaces that incorporate sustainable materials and energy-efficient systems, offering individuals a sustainable and eco-friendly escape from modern life. - **Stationery and Handwriting Products:** Stationery companies can develop products and tools that cater to the growing interest in handwriting and analog writing, providing writers with high-quality materials to enhance their writing experience. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Treehouse Writing Studios](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casetta-tessino.md) - [Nature-Immersed Creative Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/french-creek-workhops-house.md) - [Artistic Lakeside Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ely-retreat.md) - [Dual-Workspace Backyard Sheds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/workshed.md) - [Sustainable Off-Grid Remote Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/daria-sheina.md) - [Dark-Green Minimal Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scalar-architecture.md) - [Off-Grid Forest Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-nest-cabin.md) - [Self-Designed Tranquil Workspaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-saransh.md) - [Earthy Tonal Tiled Sheds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-shed-1.md)
