# Digitally Customized Desks The Ergonomically Optimized Workspace Uses Kinect 3D Scanner to Create By Meghan Young | Published 2014-01-23 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ergonomically-optimized-workspace References: [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/ergonomically-optimized-workspace/13826731) & [dankonius.wix](http://dankonius.wix.com/dankoradulovic) Imagine pulling up a seat to a desk customized specifically to the proportions of one's bodies as well as the various needs throughout the day; the Ergonomically Optimized Workspace does just that. It is a desk that a person creates him- or herself with the help of a Kinect 3D scanner. To figure out the unique dimensions of the Ergonomically Optimized Workspace, a person simply sits down in front of the Kinect 3D scanner and stretches his or her arms out at different points to specify its shape. In the demonstration above, [industrial designer](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mespace-workstation) Danko Radulovic created a [U-shaped desk](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arnardo-desk) with various points that resulted in an asymmetrical design. Developed at ENSCI les ateliers in Paris, France, the Ergonomically Optimized Workspace appears to be a concept for now. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.1/10 - Popularity: 32% | Activity: 83% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Customized Workspaces:** The trend of digitally customized desks presents an opportunity for businesses to offer personalized workspaces that cater to individual needs and dimensions using innovative technologies. - **Kinect 3D Scanning:** The use of Kinect 3D scanners in creating ergonomic workspaces opens up possibilities for disruptive innovation in the fields of furniture design and workspace optimization. - **Asymmetrical Desk Design:** The rise of asymmetrical desk designs, as showcased by the Ergonomically Optimized Workspace, presents a potential disruption in the traditional office furniture industry, encouraging more creative and ergonomic solutions. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Manufacturing:** The application of digital customization and Kinect 3D scanning technologies in desk production offers a disruptive opportunity for the furniture manufacturing industry to create personalized and ergonomic workspaces. - **Office Space Planning:** The trend of digitally customized desks necessitates a shift in office space planning, with professionals in this industry having an opportunity to provide tailored work environments that enhance employee productivity and well-being. - **Design and Innovation Consulting:** The emergence of asymmetrical desk designs and the use of innovative technologies in workspace customization present a disruptive innovation opportunity for design and innovation consulting firms to assist businesses in creating unique and ergonomic workspaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Hybrid Schedule Workstation Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/humanex-x3.md) - [Elegant Working Desk Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mindset-builtin-computer-desk.md) - [Ergonomic Smart Workstation Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ergonomic-workstations.md) - [Customizable Tech Brand Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/corsair-platform6.md) - [Voice Assistant Smart Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ergonomyx-smart-desk-20.md) - [Floor-Sit Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uppeal-desk-lshaped.md) - [Employee Personalization Workstation Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zedo-desk.md) - [OLED Screen-Equipped Smart Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lumina-desk.md) - [Gesture Control Smart Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/autonomous-smartdesk-levitate.md)
