The original model was built in the 1960s and was intended for military applications. However, despite its design, the original model was mostly used as a [beach car](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/2025-land-rover-defender-beach-break-edition). The new design aims to serve a similar purpose as an electric version of a classic and fun car. The e-Plein Air Concept features a short wheelbase and has a range of 62 miles. An original part form the Renault 4 and 4L were used in the new car, including the steering wheel and dashboard as well as the umbrella-like gearshift. However the gauge cluster is now digital. The car will not see mass production and will remain a concept.
