# Buoyant Balloon Architecture Enveloping Space Embodies a New Structural Language of Levitation By Amelia Roblin | Published 2013-03-06 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/enveloping-space References: [suckerpunchdaily](http://www.suckerpunchdaily.com/2013/03/05/enveloping-space/) & [rpi.edu](http://rpi.edu/) To many people, the word "architecture" suggests the erection of several walls and a roof. This idea is incredibly limiting and completely crushed once you have beheld something like Enveloping Space. It is not clear what the [eccentric clustered edifice](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/structural-botany) would house, but it would certainly serve to accommodate any activity in an undoubtedly unfamiliar way. Slender white stems support the [floating capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-capsule-in-time) and provide access to the enclosed upper areas. Orange lozenge-like balls act as [public spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/radius-transformation-pavilion) while the smaller inner ones of shiny blue contain private ones. The bouquet of abstract structures can be arranged freely according to the required program and Lisa-Christin Laue's Enveloping Space becomes a lofty labyrinth of unusual rooms. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.3/10 - Popularity: 63% | Activity: 27% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/architecture) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Abstract Architecture:** Embracing unconventional design elements and arrangements to create unique spatial experiences. - **Floating Structures:** Exploring the use of buoyant and levitating structures for architectural purposes. - **Flexible Spaces:** Adapting spatial configurations to accommodate various activities and programs in innovative ways. ### Where This Applies - **Architecture:** Opportunities for architects to push the boundaries of traditional design and create visually striking and functional structures. - **Real Estate:** Developing properties with unconventional architecture that offer distinct living or commercial experiences. - **Hospitality:** Creating hotels, resorts, and event spaces that provide guests with immersive and memorable environments. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Interactive Architectural Pavilions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-landscape.md) - [Elevated Leisure Habitats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elevated-leisure-habitat.md) - [Inversion Living Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tiny-getaway.md) - [Billowing Modular Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/curly-cube.md) - [Donut-Shaped Meteorological Balloons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woven-gateway-and-sky-ring.md) - [Inflated Design Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-as-a-main-material.md) - [Vaulted Pink Complexes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/babel-housing-mexico.md) - [Immersive Balloon Experiences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/balloon-story-popup.md) - [Blooming Clustered Art Forms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/structural-botany.md)
