It relies on a roster of one-touch timer buttons that work to [cut power to appliances](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/power-strips) once they are no longer used. The Envirotouch works to simplify the traditional process of using a [circular timer switch](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/time-timer) that acts as a middleman between the plug and wall socket. Envirotouch programs the outlet to switch off after a period of time determined by the user. Users can choose time periods of 15, 45, 60 or 120 minutes after which the switch will automatically be disabled It can be installed in new outlets but can also be retrofitted to existing ones. The Envirotouch may be an elegant and simple gadget but that doesn't mean you can necessarily install it yourself -- it must be installed by a qualified electrician. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 36% | Activity: 51% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Smart Home Energy-saving Switches:** Opportunity for manufacturers and retailers to create and sell simple and efficient smart home energy-saving switches that simplify the traditional process of using a circular timer switch that acts as a middleman between the plug and wall socket. - **One Touch Timer Buttons for Energy Optimization:** Opportunity for developers and manufacturers to create smart switches that rely on one-touch timer buttons that work to cut power to appliances once they are no longer used, aiming to minimize wasteful energy consumption. - **Retrofitting Existing Outlets with Energy-saving Switches:** Opportunity for electrician companies to offer retrofitting services to install energy-saving switches in existing outlets, making it accessible for homeowners who don't want to install new outlets. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Smart Home Industry:** Manufacturers and retailers in the smart home industry have an opportunity to produce and sell energy-saving switches that optimize energy usage and facilitate a more environmentally friendly lifestyle. - **Electrician Industry:** Electrician companies have an opportunity to offer retrofitting services as an additional business line, facilitating the installation of energy-saving switches in existing outlets. - **Environmental Industry:** The environmental industry has an opportunity to promote the use of Envirotouch energy-saving switches as one of the ways to minimize energy wastage and decrease carbon footprint. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Socket-Concealing Light Switches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/l1-switch-system.md) - [Plug-And-Play Smart Home Technologies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-switch1.md) - [Modular Self-Monitoring Power Cubes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/teak-smart-cube.md) - [Aftermarket Home Automation Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-home-automation-switch.md) - [Retrofitted Smart Home Switches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/switchbot-bot.md) - [Low-Cost Smart Light Switches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wyze-switch.md) - [Energy-Monitoring Smart Outlets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eve-energy-outlet.md) - [Dedicated Home Energy Managers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/home-energy-manager.md) - [Light Switch-Upgrading Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/evvr-inwall-relay-smart-light-switch.md)
