# Plush Parenting Teddy Bear Proves Helpful In Nurturing Endangered Lemur By TechnoGadget | Published 2009-01-22 | World Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/endangered-species-lemur-mistaken-teddy-as-her-mommy References: [dailymail](http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1126126/Pictured-The-incredibly-rare-baby-lemur-clutching-teddy-mother.html) With her bright hazel eyes, tiny black face surrounded with feathery gray hair, this baby lemur has already captured the hearts of the staff at the Besancon Zoo in Eastern France. The newly born Madagascar lemur is named Tahina and is considered one of 17 *Propithecus coronatus* lemurs living in custody around the world. The baby lemur is being nurtured by veterinarians who feed her with a small syringe containing a mixture of cat and infant milk. Tahina was given a cuddly teddy bear that she can clutch to like a real mother. The “mommy teddy bear” can greatly help Tahina as lemurs are believed to ride on their mother’s bellies in their first weeks. In the wilds of Lake Aloatra in Eastern Madagascar, lemurs are still under threat because some villagers consider them delicacies. Thankfully, the staff of the Besancon Zoo are untiringly caring for Tahina, saving her from the danger of hunting and habitat destruction. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 36% | Activity: 41% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [World](https://www.trendhunter.com/world) > [Bizarre](https://www.trendhunter.com/bizarreworld) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Endangered Species Nurture:** Leverage alternative nurturing methods, such as teddy bears, to enhance the survival prospects of endangered species - **Animal Welfare Innovation:** Introduce new methods and tools for animal welfare to enhance the well-being of endangered species - **Human-centered Conservation:** Forge partnerships that empower local communities to serve as stewards of endangered species ### Sectors Adopting This - **Conservation:** Leverage nurturing innovations for endangered species conservation - **Zoos and Aquariums:** Develop new nurturing methods and tools for zoos and aquariums to ensure the well-being of endangered species - **Sustainable Tourism:** Develop travel programs that explore and promote animal welfare innovations in endangered species conservation ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Warming Weighted Plushies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/heartwarming-hugs.md) - [Animal-Tracking Plush Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fahlo.md) - [Man-Sized Cuddly Teddy Bears](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loving-bear-puffy.md) - [Interactive Holiday Plush Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bearlieve-bear.md) - [AI-Powered Teddy Bear Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tedi.md) - [Bionic Panda Cubs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anan-bionic-panda-cub.md) - [Large Animal Plush Toys](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/polar-bear-oversized-plush-cuddle-animal-body-pillow.md) - [Weighted Plush Companions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hugarounds.md) - [Mental Health Plushies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-calmness-crew.md)
