This [staircase design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cobalt-coach-house) is perfect for those houses that have stairs plopped right in the middle of the room, or stairs that simply become part of the overall aesthetic rather than hidden away somewhere. Designed by Biljana Jovanovic, a Croatian architect based in Budapest, Hungary, the Emmental Stairs boast a playful look that is particularly perfect for [family homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/casa-bm). With a crater-like encasement that creates walls of art while letting [natural light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/omarama-attic) to seep through, the stairs themselves look haphazardly placed to create a dynamic experience. The motif of circles throughout the Emmental Stairs was inspired by a huge old window in the apartment. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.4/10 - Popularity: 26% | Activity: 39% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Crater-like Staircases:** Embracing unconventional staircase designs that integrate into the overall aesthetic of a space create a visually striking and dynamic experience. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture:** Innovative staircase designs offer architects an opportunity to create unique and playful focal points in residential and commercial spaces. - **Interior Design:** Unconventional staircase designs provide interior designers with opportunities to create visually striking and functional spaces. - **Home Construction:** Implementing creative staircase designs in new home construction allows builders to offer unique selling features that appeal to modern homeowners. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculptural Townhome Staircases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atelier-pierre-thibault-1.md) - [Bold Architectural Renovations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flat-iron-house.md) - [Dutch Barn Spiralled Staircase](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/julia-van-beuningen.md) - [Dynamic Bookend Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stair-table.md) - [Elevated Leisure Habitats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elevated-leisure-habitat.md) - [Staggered Floor Modern Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-of-seven-floors.md) - [Timbered Passage Stair Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-annex.md) - [Playful Apartment Makeovers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/onda-apartment.md) - [Multifaceted Geometric Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/stackable-stools.md)
