# Etiquette Dishware Emma Houlston's Illustrated China Plates Feature Comic Tips on Comportment By Danielle Levy | Published 2009-02-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emma-houlston-illustration-dishware-plates References: [narratively.eu](http://narratively.eu/) & [penandthepixel](http://www.penandthepixel.com/) This series of [English bone china plates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/destree-x-cabana) was inspired by the scenes of the Harrow Ladies Luncheon Club from John Betjemen's film "Metroland" (1970). I adore the [sketchbook-like illustrations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tortugaware) and comical statements on etiquette at the bottom of each plate. We all probably experienced our parents and/or grandparents giving us their two cents about [proper table manners](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tableware-bundle-for-children) as kids. These dishes are a funny and adorable reminder of these classic childhood moments. They are also not-so-subtle reminders to keep our mouths closed when we eat! Emma Houlston freelances for design agencies and is based in London. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.6/10 - Popularity: 25% | Activity: 15% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Illustrated Dishware:** Opportunity for designers to create unique and playful illustrations on dishware, adding charm and humor to dining experiences. - **Etiquette Reminders:** Potential for dishware featuring humorous statements and reminders for proper dining etiquette, creating a lighthearted approach to table manners. - **Nostalgic Dinnerware:** Growing demand for dishware that evokes nostalgia and brings back childhood memories, providing comfort and a sense of familiarity during meals. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Design:** Designers have the opportunity to create innovative and whimsical dishware designs, catering to customers who seek unique and creative dining experiences. - **Hospitality:** Restaurants and hotels can incorporate illustrated dishware with etiquette reminders as a playful and engaging way to enhance the dining experience for their guests. - **Home Decor:** Home decor stores can offer nostalgic dinnerware collections that tap into the desire for sentimental and comforting elements in dining spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Patterned Cultural Crockery](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dishoom.md) - [Playful Tableware Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/creative-dining-experience.md) - [Luxurious Patterned Ceramic Plates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/patterned-ceramic-plates.md) - [Artful Soft-Pink Dining Rooms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-gallery-at-sketch.md) - [Table Manners-Teaching Tableware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baby-tableware.md) - [Vibrantly Designed Playful Tableware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hem.md) - [Handmade Dessert Plates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carolina-k.md) - [Porcelain Dinnerware Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/monte-porcelain.md) - [Innovative Ceramic Tableware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ceramic-tableware1.md)
