# Flammable Book Covers Elizabeth Perez Encourages Readers to Burn 'Fahrenheit 451' By Meghan Young | Published 2013-03-07 | Business Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elizabeth-perez References: [neatorama](http://www.neatorama.com/2013/03/06/Fahrenheit-451-Match-Book/) & [eliperez](http://eliperez.com/portfolio/fahrenheit-451/) The classic novel 'Fahrenheit 451' centers around a dystopian future in which firemen don't stop fire, they start them; designer Elizabeth Perez embraces this destructive mandate with her utterly original book cover. Tying in neatly to the plot, the spine has been made to look like the [striking paper surface of a matchbook](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moneylighter) while the '1' in '451' has been replaced with a matchstick. By making the book itself look flammable, Elizabeth Perez shows the fate of such tomes in the novel. Firemen in 'Fahrenheit 451' only start fires where they believe books are hidden, since they have been banned to suppress ideas and individuality.
