# Ice Pick Lamps Elger North Light Illuminates Conservation With a Tool Touch By Rachel | Published 2009-06-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elger-north-light References: [ilovebadthings](http://www.ilovebadthings.com/2009/06/eiger-north-light.html) & [matthiasries](http://matthiasries.com/product/eigernorthlight/eigernorthlight1.html) Matthias Ries has created the Elger North Light to discuss the vulnerability of preservation. The Elger North Light is made using an ice pick, which adds a tough look to the design. With [black handle and lamp shade](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/takeout-lamp), the Elger North Light lamp hopes people will see it and begin to discuss the north. Take a look at the unconventional design by Matthias Ries that turns ice picks to [tough lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bic-lamp). **Implications** - I don't believe that these lamps are actually intended for purchase, but they instead aim to make a point about the current state of the environment.
