# Majestic River Photography The 'Elements of Place' Photo Series Captures the Hudson River By Rahul Kalvapalle | Published 2014-07-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elements-of-place References: [featureshoot](http://www.featureshoot.com/2014/07/wild-abstract-landscapes-capture-the-majesty-of-the-hudson-river/) & [cmblackwood](http://www.cmblackwood.com/photography) 'Elements of Place' is a photo series, captured by photographer Carolyn Marks Blackwood, that successfully documents and depicts the metamorphosis of the Hudson River over the course of several seasons. The photos consist of depictions of the river's ice forms in the winter, and are followed by shots taken in the spring. There are even photos of the clouds that float above the riverscape. Blackwood's photos are captured in such a way that the depicted sections of the river look like cropped fragments rather than vast landscapes. Rich hues and eye-catching contrasts are a hallmark of this series. This is unsurprising given the influence of mid-century [abstract expressionism](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/profiles-in-color) on the photographer. The Elements of Place photo series is currently on display at the [Albany Institute of History and Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/albany-park-kova-pit-sofa), where it will remain until September 7, 2014. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 21% | Activity: 4% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Artistic River Photography:** Opportunity to integrate unique and artistic river photos into advertising campaigns or tourism promotions. - **Seasonal Change Photography:** Opportunity to capture other bodies of water or natural landscapes to depict seasonal changes and create a diverse portfolio of images. - **Abstract Landscape Photography:** Opportunity to explore the influence of mid-century abstract expressionism on landscape photography. ### Where This Applies - **Tourism:** Use Blackwood's photos to advertise scenic river locations and attractions to tourists. - **Art and Culture:** Opportunity to display Blackwood's photos in museums or galleries to celebrate the beauty of nature and promote interest in artistic expression. - **Environmental Conservation:** Use Blackwood's photos to raise awareness about the importance of preserving natural landscapes and reducing human impact on the environment. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Chalk Streams Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/british-conceptual-landscape-photographer.md) - [Digital City-Inspired Art Works](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grand-central-station.md) - [Public Art Displays](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paul-anthony-smith.md) - [Immersive Light Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spencer-finch.md) - [Human Nature-Themed Art Galleries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sea-im-awake.md) - [Pixelated Photographed Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/southern-trees.md) - [Otherwordly Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/william-monk.md) - [Blurry Abstract Photography Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-allusion.md) - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md)
