The Electrostatic Wind Energy Converter (EWICON) may look like one large bladeless [Dyson](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dyson-cool-cf1) fan, but it is in fact a wind turbine. Instead of cooling down the masses, which would be rather thoughtful in the summer heat, it generates power in a sleek and stylish manner.

Created by Dutch architecture firm Mecanoo, the prototype for the Electrostatic Wind Energy Converter is currently on display at Delft University of Technology. Essentially, it functions by using particle movements to generate energy. By doing so, it addresses one of the most common complaints of wind turbines: Their [noisiness](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plasma-actuators).

Quieter and more interesting to look at, the Electrostatic Wind Energy Converter also doesn't require as much maintenance as traditional windmills. It suits urban environments as well.
