# Tape Measure Writing Utensils The Electronic Pen is Designed to Make Written Measurements Easier By Michael Hines | Published 2011-10-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electronic-pen References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2011/10/25/meter-pen/) The Electronic Pen is a conceptual [writing utensil](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flowtica-scribe) designed to make it easier to measure while you draw. The Electronic Pen was created by Jang Hyung-jin and features and LCD screen that displays different units of measurement. The pen measures as you draw, allowing you to accurately calculate length as you write. Details on how you select the measurement the pen tracks weren't given, but I do know that this pen is recharged via kinetic energy. Simply shake the pen up and down to charge up the battery inside. The Electronic Pen is one of the many [innovative measuring devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/setime-clock) designed recently to help free people from the confines of the often-cumbersome [tape measure](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tiroler-20). A pen that could accurately measure distance would be great for architects and drafters who often create their blueprints to scale, needing highly accurate and often minute measurements. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.7/10 - Popularity: 12% | Activity: 2% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Electronic-measuring Pens:** Developing electronic pens that can accurately measure length while writing presents a disruptive innovation opportunity for the stationery industry. - **Kinetic Energy Charging:** Exploring the use of kinetic energy to recharge writing utensils creates a disruptive innovation opportunity for the renewable energy industry. - **Innovative Measuring Devices:** Designing innovative devices that can replace traditional tape measures offers a disruptive innovation opportunity for the construction industry. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Stationery:** Integrating electronic-measuring pens into the stationery industry could revolutionize how people measure and draw. - **Renewable Energy:** Adopting kinetic energy charging methods in writing utensils could open up new possibilities for the renewable energy industry. - **Construction:** Utilizing innovative measuring devices instead of traditional tape measures could streamline construction processes and increase accuracy. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Dual-Functioning Mechanical Pencils](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-penpass.md) - [Sleek Rounded Measuring Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/enso-tape.md) - [Digital Measuring Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lidar.md) - [Connected Professional Tape Measures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acegmet-dtx-10.md) - [Three-in-One Writing Utensils](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tp-pen.md) - [Refill-Friendly Ruler Pens](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/combined-ruler-and-pen.md) - [Next-Gen Connected Tape Measures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/digital-tape-measure.md) - [Digital Design Desktop Rulers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neoruler.md) - [Bluetooth-Connected Tape Measures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/datapro-25.md)
