# Electronic Diorama Furniture The Electri-City Table by Ben Yates Looks Like a Miniaturized 'Tron' By Meghan Young | Published 2012-10-02 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electricity-table References: [neatorama](http://www.neatorama.com/2012/09/30/Electric-Coffee-Table) & [interior-design.wonderhowto](http://interior-design.wonderhowto.com/inspiration/electri-city-tables-by-ben-yates-0139170/) If someone had to visualize the world of 'TRON' in real life, it would probably looks suspiciously close to the Electri-City Table. Forgetting about the lights for a second, the table itself is made up of a series of miniature people, streets and more, which is exactly what that digital existence would be like to humans. Encased in acrylic and glass, the Electri-City Table appears to have been sent down by geek heaven. In reality, the Electri-City Table was created by Benjamin Miall Yates. He used old circuit boards and other electronic components to create a sprawling city diorama that people could get lost in for days. Creating various versions of the Electri-City Table, he has relied on everything from CD players and speaker systems to digital photo frames and PC computers. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.9/10 - Popularity: 93% | Activity: 76% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Diorama Furniture:** Opportunity to create unique and interactive furniture pieces that combine technology with art. - **'TRON' Aesthetics:** Opportunity to design products and environments inspired by the futuristic and neon visuals of the 'TRON' franchise. - **Upcycled Electronics:** Opportunity to repurpose old electronics to create innovative and visually striking art installations and furniture. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity in the furniture industry by incorporating technology and interactive elements into designs. - **Art & Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity in the art and design industry by creating immersive and interactive installations that combine technology and traditional mediums. - **Electronics Recycling:** Disruptive innovation opportunity in the electronics recycling industry by finding new uses for old electronics and promoting sustainability through upcycling. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Digital Board Game Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-arena.md) - [Video Game-Inspired Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pac-man-side-table.md) - [Sensory Stimulation Dining Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oasix-table.md) - [Artwork-Inspired Dining Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/d12-dining-table.md) - [Dynamic Sculptural Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-transformation-table.md) - [Playful Accent Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bug-table.md) - [Kinetic Artful Sand Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arrakis-30.md) - [Dynamic Interaction Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/enigmasurface.md) - [Fluid Topographic Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dune-table.md)
