# Connected Wheelchairs This Electric Wheelchair Has Revolutionary Smart Safety Features By Charlotte Joyce Kidd | Published 2015-09-16 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/electric-wheelchair References: [techtimes](http://www.techtimes.com/articles/85447/20150916/permobil-ctia-disability-wheelchair.htm) & [permobilus](http://www.permobilus.com/index.php) This electric wheelchair is the logical next step in assisted mobility technology. The smart electric wheelchair from [Permobil](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ticwatch-e3) and [AT&T](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/AST-SpaceMobile) connects to the Internet to offer a variety of enhanced safety features. The connected electric wheelchair can generate its own diagnostic texts. By tapping into cellular networks, it can alert the user of fire signals in the area -- a potentially life-saving feature for people with mobility issues and who may not be able to use all exits. If needed, it can also be programmed to track the location of the wheelchair and send data back to the user's loved ones. A smart accelerometer tracks the speed of the device and can tell whether it is upright or has been knocked over. Although all of these features may seem simple and obvious, this new electric wheelchair -- an update on Permobil's existing non-connected [F5](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inwin-f5) model -- will be revolutionary in its field. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.6/10 - Popularity: 25% | Activity: 15% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/mobile) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Smart Electric Wheelchairs:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop advanced safety features and connectivity options for electric wheelchairs to improve user experience and provide life-saving capabilities. - **Internet of Things in Assisted Mobility:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate IoT technology into assistive devices to enhance safety, tracking, and communication for users with mobility limitations. - **Diagnostic and Tracking Capabilities:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create electric wheelchair systems that can autonomously diagnose issues, track location, and provide real-time data to improve user safety and peace of mind. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Medical Devices:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop advanced electric wheelchair technology to improve mobility and quality of life for individuals with disabilities. - **Internet of Things (iot) Solutions:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create IoT-enabled assistive devices to improve connectivity and safety for individuals with mobility limitations. - **Telecommunications:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Partner with assistive device manufacturers to leverage cellular networks and connectivity solutions for enhanced safety and communication features in electric wheelchairs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sleek Robotic Wheelchair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robotic-wheelchair.md) - [All-Terrain Electric Wheelchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/scewo-bro.md) - [VR Electric Mobility Wheelchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mobility-wheelchair.md) - [Modified Wheelchair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leaning-wheelchair.md) - [Two-in-One Senior Mobility Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/selfdriving-wheelchair.md) - [Assistive Manual Wheelchair Add-Ons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/manual-wheelchair.md) - [Wheel-Free Assisted Mobility Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/toyota-walk-me.md) - [Smart Watch Wheelchair Settings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wheelchair-mode.md) - [Semi-Outdoor Foldable Wheelchairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robooter.md)
