# Lopsided Mountain Retreats The 'Elbow Coulee' by Balance Associates Architects is Asymetrical By Jennifer Gosnell | Published 2012-08-31 | Updated 2012-09-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elbow-coulee-by-balance-associates-architects References: [balanceassociates](http://balanceassociates.com/projects/elbowext.html) The 'Elbow Coulee' by Balance Associates Architects is a lopsided, asymmetical retreat nestled right among the mountains. The architectural firm cleverly included a photo of the abode in all four seasons -- summer, autumn, winter and spring -- to give a better idea of the type of experience you can look forward to. The [mountain cabin](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/horizon-cabin) has the distinct woodsy, natural feel of other Balance Associates Architects' projects. Situated among nature, the incredible retreat offers an amazing place for relaxation, peace and a wonderful getaway. Whether it is used as a [ski chalet](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/howqua-river-lodge), hiking home or your everyday household, this [incredible retreat is integrated with nature](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/console-house) and offers an experience unlike any other. One of the most adorable features of the place is the sunken metal pond that boasts some gorgeous wildlife. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 30% | Activity: 22% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Asymmetrical Architecture:** The 'Elbow Coulee' retreat showcases the potential for unique and eye-catching asymmetrical architectural designs. - **Integration with Nature:** The retreat's seamless integration with the surrounding mountains and wildlife highlights the growing demand for eco-friendly and nature-centric architecture. - **Year-round Retreats:** The inclusion of photos depicting all four seasons emphasizes the rising popularity of vacation homes that offer a diverse range of experiences throughout the year. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Architecture and Design:** Architectural firms can explore opportunities in creating asymmetrical designs that capture attention and create a unique visual identity for residential and commercial projects. - **Eco-tourism and Hospitality:** The retreat's nature-centric design opens doors for the development of sustainable, eco-friendly resorts and vacation properties that cater to individuals seeking immersive wilderness experiences. - **Real Estate and Property Development:** The concept of year-round retreats presents an opportunity for developers to create and market vacation homes that provide different experiences depending on the season, offering a more diverse range of potential buyers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Architectural Tranquil Cabin Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bolder-londges.md) - [Artistic Lakeside Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ely-retreat.md) - [Mountain Courtyard Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ski-house.md) - [Modern Mountainous Luxury Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robert-chisholm-architects.md) - [Residential Mountain Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/avber-house.md) - [Hilltop Valley-Overlooking Cabins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hermitage.md) - [Angular Getaway Cabin Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/halfmoon-bay.md) - [Shape‑shifting Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-offgrid-house.md) - [Mountain Family Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/skyview-house.md)
