# BookShelf Adjusts Shape to Contents Elastica BookShelf By Ayman | Published 2008-02-21 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elastico-bookshelf References: [gizmodo](http://gizmodo.com/359139/elastico-bookshelf-meets-elastic-band-has-useful-offspring) & [ariannavivenzio](http://www.ariannavivenzio.com/) I like the concept of this bookshelf which dynamically adjusts its shape to whatevere you put inside it. The **Elastica Bookshelf**, designed by [Arianna Vivenzio](http://www.ariannavivenzio.com), is basically a large elastic bandage stretched around 2 metal posts that are permanently fixed to the wall. The design allows you to fit a [variety of different sized objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tumba) inside, such as [books, CDs, DVDs, trinkets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/penguin-x-moebe-book-stand) and even boxes full of smaller items. The shelf takes a different shape as you change its contents. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.1/10 - Popularity: 72% | Activity: 72% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Dynamic Shape-shifting:** The concept of dynamically adjusting furniture to accommodate different contents presents opportunities for disruptive innovation in furniture design. - **Flexible Storage:** The rise of flexible storage solutions like the Elastica Bookshelf opens up potential for disruption in the home organization industry. - **Adaptive Furniture:** The trend towards adaptive furniture designs that can be customized to fit different objects creates opportunities for disruptive innovation in the interior design sector. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Design:** The Elastica Bookshelf demonstrates potential disruptions in the furniture design industry by introducing dynamic and adaptive features. - **Home Organization:** Flexible storage solutions like the Elastica Bookshelf have the potential to disrupt the home organization industry by providing versatile storage solutions. - **Interior Design:** The concept of adaptive furniture, exemplified by the Elastica Bookshelf, presents opportunities for disruptive innovation in the interior design industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Twisting Donut-Shaped Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hullabaloo-bookshelf.md) - [Abstract Jigsaw-Like Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spectator-shelf.md) - [Dynamic Geometric Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cheft.md) - [Flexible Storage Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/brickbox-modular-shelving.md) - [Sculptural Bookshelves Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-bookshelf.md) - [Book-Storing Side Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bookgroove-bookrack.md) - [Room-Dividing Bookshelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/frquence-shelf.md) - [Dynamic Architecturally Strong Bookshelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dogma.md) - [Modular Grid-Style Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bend-shelf-by-spenser-atlas.md)
