# Convertible Cell Concepts The Elastic Cellphone Will Revolutionize Mobile Communication By JDurhamII | Published 2011-03-21 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/elastic-phone-concepts References: [designbuzz](http://www.designbuzz.com/entry/elastic-phone-with-a-lot-of-flexible-keypad-options/) & [design-scchang.blogspot](http://design-scchang.blogspot.com/2011/03/my-work-2011-elastic-concept-phone.html) The Elastic Cellphone concept is one adaptable ball of innovation. Able to convert from a media player to a game console and back to a messaging behemoth, the Elastic Cellphone will serve as a mobile revolution. The phone has a rubber strand that wraps the phone to serve whatever purpose the user needs. One of the features and functions of the phone is a [fully capable touchscreen](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/duo-phone), which has a keyboard that doesn't obstruct the screen. Making the mobile even more customizable is a [keyboard that can be expanded](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amber-kb-1). The keyboard seems to wrap around the Elastic Cellphone like a rubber snake, all the while combining the functions of QWERTY keyboards and full touchscreens such as the [iPhone](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iphone-fold-concept). OLED and touch feedback are just icing on the cake to an already innovative conceptual convertible cellphone. I hope to see the Elastic Cellphone in production soon. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 6.5/10 - Popularity: 98% | Activity: 89% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Mobile](https://www.trendhunter.com/mobile) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Convertible Technology:** The concept of the elastic cellphone is one example of the potential of convertible technology to revolutionize mobile communication. - **Adaptive Interfaces:** The development of a user interface that can adapt to different functions and forms, as demonstrated by the Elastic Cellphone, is a trend that has the potential to disrupt the mobile device industry. - **Flexible Displays:** The use of flexible displays in the Elastic Cellphone concept points to a trend towards more malleable hardware that could inspire innovations in technology and materials for mobile devices. ### Where This Applies - **Mobile Devices:** The Elastic Cellphone concept has the potential to disrupt the mobile device industry by introducing a new approach to customizable form and function. - **Consumer Electronics:** The trend towards flexible and adaptable hardware, as demonstrated by the Elastic Cellphone concept, has implications for the entire consumer electronics industry. - **Materials Science:** The development of flexible displays and materials used in the Elastic Cellphone concept could inspire disruptive innovations in the materials science industry, especially for applications in consumer electronics. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Flexible Folding Concept Phone](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flex-in-out-flip.md) - [Innovative Size-Changing Phones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/motorola-rizr.md) - [Malleable Wearable Smartphones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/motorola-adaptive-display-concept.md) - [Multifunctional Foldable Mobile Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/move-mobile-device.md) - [Adaptable AI-Enabled Smartphones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/play-t-1-foldable-phone.md) - [Modular Component Smartphones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/soul-phone-concept.md) - [Rotating Button Panel Smartphones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phone-one.md) - [Adaptable Tech Hardware](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hone-pro.md) - [Wacky Design Smartphones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playful-phone-experimentation.md)
