# Contemporary Concrete Furniture The Work of Designer Ekaterina Vagurina is Stylishly Cemented By Meghan Young | Published 2014-06-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ekaterina-vagurina References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/concrete-decor-ekaterina-vagurina/) & [vagurinka](http://vagurinka.com/) Ekaterina Vagurina has started to work with an unorthodox material for her home furnishings collection: concrete. Starting with a desk, Dobrostol, and a [cutlery box](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/concav-collection), Dobrobox, she shows the world that although tough and cold, it can be given a contemporary appeal that is much more inviting that one would initially expect. For instance, Ekaterina Vagurina gave the Dobrostol desk a fun and [curvy silhouette](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-coffee-tables) that is as practical as it is pleasing to the eye. One side acts as a built-in organizer for cups and stationary. Ekaterina Vagurina also juxtaposes the [concrete with wood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/formwork-collection) and yellow metal to give it a friendlier aesthetic. As for the Dobrobox, Ekaterina Vagurina cleverly marks its purpose with a wooden sliding lid that features a cutout of a fork and spoon. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.1/10 - Popularity: 85% | Activity: 60% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Contemporary Concrete Furniture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the use of concrete in creating modern and inviting furniture designs. - **Combining Materials in Furniture Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Experiment with combining different materials, such as wood, metal, and concrete, to create unique and aesthetically pleasing furniture pieces. - **Functional and Stylish Organizers:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design furniture that offers built-in organizers, such as the Dobrostol desk, to create practical and visually appealing storage solutions. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Embrace the use of concrete as a material in the furniture industry to offer customers modern and distinctive pieces. - **Interior Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate the trend of combining materials in furniture design into interior design projects to create visually striking spaces. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop functional and stylish organizers inspired by the Dobrobox cutlery box for the home decor industry, catering to customers seeking practical yet attractive storage solutions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Cardboard Box Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/karton-furniture-collection.md) - [Industrial Strength Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/intra-side-table.md) - [Contrasting Element Concrete Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/conecto-modular-stool.md) - [Reimagined Monolithic Furniture Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fossil-furniture.md) - [Styrofoam Furniture Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/trashy.md) - [Playful Concrete Wash Basins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kast-wave-collection.md) - [Wooden Textural Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/corrugated-furniture.md) - [Utilitarian Design Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dpartment.md) - [Sturdy Home Decor](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-cement-decor.md)
