# Lifestyle Survival Keychains EDC Kit Gets You Prepared for a Hard Knock Life By Matt Ho | Published 2011-10-27 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/edc-kit References: [selectism](http://www.selectism.com/news/2011/10/26/the-edc-tool-kit/) & [store.kaufmann-mercantile](http://store.kaufmann-mercantile.com/collections/tools-outdoors/products/edc-kit) Kauffman Mercantile wants people to be prepared for when the worst goes down, so they decided to create the convenient travel-friendly [EDC](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leatherman-adapt-kit) Kit. The EDC Kit is kind of like a [Swiss Army](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/victorinox-pocketknives) knife, but it's a lot simpler. So what does it pack? The kit has a pry bar (mini crow bar basically) that will prick, score, cut and lift different objects. It has a 1-inch capsule lighter that's waterproof and airtight sealed so that no water enters and no lighter fluid leaves. The EDC also has the standard screwdriver ([Phillips](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/orioners-z3) head and a flat head) and precision tweezers for pulling out splinters -- or eyebrow hair, I don't judge. The kit is small, handy and packs the basic essentials that should help you out in times of need. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 48% | Activity: 78% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Convenient Travel-friendly Kits:** Creating convenient and travel-friendly kits that contain essential tools for various purposes. - **Simplified Multi-functional Tools:** Designing multi-functional tools that are simpler to use compared to traditional Swiss Army knives. - **Waterproof and Airtight Sealed Containers:** Developing containers that are both waterproof and airtight sealed to protect valuable items in various scenarios. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Outdoor Adventure Gear:** Opportunity for outdoor adventure gear companies to create compact and portable kits with essential tools for survival. - **Everyday Carry (EDC) Products:** Chance for EDC product manufacturers to innovate and simplify the design of multi-functional tools for everyday carry needs. - **Storage and Container Manufacturing:** Potential for storage and container manufacturers to produce waterproof and airtight sealed containers for various applications. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Micro Keychain EDC Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tinyblade.md) - [Keychain-Sized EDC Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pathfinder-multitool.md) - [Card-Sized EDC Tool Kits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grim-workshop-sere-cards.md) - [Efficiently Engineered EDC Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lever-gear-edge-xt.md) - [Keychain-Sized Multitools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/k-smart-keychain.md) - [Knife-Free Titanium Multitools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/edc-monster.md) - [Titanium Key-Inspired Multitools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/edc-monster-keymaster.md) - [Metallic Multitool Wallet Cards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ekster-tool-card.md) - [Pocket-Ready Multitool Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gerber-prybrid.md)
