# Sustainable Treehouse Abodes This Eco-Friendly Ranch House is Luxurious and Rustic By Farida Helmy | Published 2014-06-01 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ecofriendly-ranch-house References: [freshome](http://freshome.com/2014/05/26/eco-friendly-family-home-texan-sun-green-lantern-residence/) & [johngrable](http://www.johngrable.com/works/residential/green_lantern.html) I can't help but sigh when I look at this eco-friendly ranch house. It looks like an adult version of a wooden treehouse -- except it's a million times more luxurious and utterly charming. This 4,000 square foot 'Green Lantern Residence' is nestled in San Antonio, Texas. Designed to take on its stunningly lush, natural-surrounding and free-loving vibe, this eco-friendly ranch house even overlooks the Olmos Basin and views of downtown San Antonio. Perfect, right? Designed by San Antonio-based studio John Grable Architects, the home was renovated from its original 1948 ranch style home -- but the architects made sure to keep some authentic touches. With wall-to-wall door to let the sunlight in and the residents out into their playfully designed outdoor area -- with a grotto waterfall and hot tub and all -- this house has it all. “The new construction was designed to re-use the existing foundation, and wood from the previous structure was recycled and re-used," says the design team about the home's sustainable natures. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.5/10 - Popularity: 70% | Activity: 86% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) > [Eco Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/ecoarchitecture) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Eco-friendly Design:** Opportunity for developing sustainable materials and energy-efficient solutions in architecture and construction. - **Luxury Treehouse Living:** Opportunity to create high-end, nature-inspired living spaces that offer a unique and environmentally conscious lifestyle. - **Retrofitting and Adaptive Reuse:** Opportunity to repurpose existing structures and incorporating sustainable design principles to reduce waste and environmental impact. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** Innovative architecture firms can explore eco-friendly designs and technologies that prioritize sustainability without compromising luxury. - **Construction:** Construction companies can embrace sustainable construction practices and materials to meet the growing demand for eco-friendly homes and buildings. - **Interior Design:** Interior design professionals can cater to the luxury treehouse living trend by creating nature-inspired, sustainable interior spaces that blend seamlessly with the environment. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sustainable Country Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/three-oaks-farm.md) - [Tranquil River-Overlooking Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/river-bend-residence.md) - [Rustic Texan Ranch Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rockin-8-ranch.md) - [Perched Grassy Hillside Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meadow-house.md) - [Nature-Rooted Family Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/haus-am-lagnesberg.md) - [Tranquil A‑Frame Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/steel-a-frame.md) - [Balanced Renovated San-Fran Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/redwood-house.md) - [Tree-Surrounding Contemporary Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/live-oak-ride-residence.md) - [Contemporary Cantilevered Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/westview-residence.md)
