# Flip-Flopping Furniture The Eater's Bench by Lucy.D is Adaptable to the Sitter's Prefered Posture By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-11-11 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eater-s-bench-by-lucy-d References: [lucyd](http://www.lucyd.com/index_eng.htm) There are a plethora of different types of chairs because there are just as many potential postures one can hold. But because a single household cannot contain a complete range of seating to suit every possible position, pieces like the Eater's Bench by Lucy.D are ideal for accommodating at least a pair of reposing poses. The [contemporary couch](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knoll-perron-bun) was commissioned by Kohlmaier based on the concept that it could be convertible. The bulk of the sofa is firm and fixed, comprising a cushioned backrest and seat with a curved lower lip. The plushy sitting surface rests upon a stiff frame of four metal legs, making the [two-seater into a chair-chesterfield hybrid](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hybla-seating-system). It's the [foldable neck rest](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expand-furniture) that gives the Eater's Bench by Lucy.D its flexibility, providing support for the upper or lower back depending on its arrangement which respectively suits a relaxed recline or a propped up comportment. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 69% | Activity: 5% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Convertible Furniture:** Designing furniture that can adapt to different postures and seating preferences. - **Flexible Seating:** Creating seating options with adjustable features to accommodate various comfort levels. - **Hybrid Chairs:** Combining elements from different types of chairs to create innovative and versatile seating solutions. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Furniture Design:** Opportunities for designers to create adaptable and customizable furniture that meets individual seating needs. - **Interior Design:** Incorporating flexible seating options into interior spaces to optimize comfort and functionality. - **E-commerce:** Providing online platforms for customers to customize and purchase convertible furniture. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Comforting Adaptable Sofa Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/baby-bird-reincarnation-3way-sofa-bed.md) - [Modular Upholstered Bright Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flipster.md) - [Hybrid Sofa Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/adaptable-sofa-system.md) - [Ultra-Simple Multifunctional Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chairpf.md) - [Adjustable Position Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/switch2-chair.md) - [Expanding Three-in-One Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/expandy.md) - [Flatpack Ultra-Modular Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nebula-chair.md) - [Dynamic Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moon-series.md) - [Angular Transforming Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optimus-furniture.md)
