Whether or not you subscribe to the theories of energy flow and the way that it influences how spaces should be furnished, it might feel wrong to position the EastWest Type Tables at random. Designer Matt Innes used [hardwood plywood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/boia) to construct a pair of [three-dimensional Japanese characters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/solis-collection) that function as furniture and literally stand for a cardinal direction each.

You might want to work the [nishi coffee table](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/topographic-coffee-table) towards the western side of a room and give the higashi a home to the eastern side. It's quite easy to establish this arrangement if you've already set up your bed or your couch so that you face the north and south axis. Stack the EastWest Type Tables for a very different piece that instantly spells out "wider world."
