Every year many people are killed by quakes, becoming crushed underneath rubble and from falling debris. This [modern-looking table](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arnardo-desk) is designed to flip over quickly and easily forming a [protective triangular structure](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ikea-storklinta) to hide in during a tremor. The “Life Desk” is made of steel and nylon board and should cost only 80 euros to manufacture--not much to save a life. According to Yanko, “Deng has already interviewed with the [Bureau of Education](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pine-island-cottages) in China and they will be producing a limited amount of these desks to try them out in schools.” ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 22% | Activity: 53% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/furniture) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Earthquake-proof Furniture:** The 'Life Desk' by Haishan Deng demonstrates a trend towards furniture designs that prioritize safety and functionality during natural disasters. - **Flipover Technology:** The Life Desk's flipover mechanism reveals the potential for flipover technology to be applied in other industries such as transportation and construction. - **Affordable Safety Equipment:** The Life Desk's cost-effective design illustrates a trend of affordable but effective safety equipment being developed for various industries. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** The Life Desk highlights how the interior design industry can integrate functionality with aesthetics, to prioritize safety and comfort. - **Education:** The Life Desk's potential implementation in schools shows how the education industry can incorporate innovative safety mechanisms into their facilities. - **Architecture:** The Life Desk demonstrates how architects can design and implement earthquake-resistant structures and safety mechanisms in their building structures. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Space-Saving Foldable Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldable-desk1.md) - [Colorful School Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clever-school-desk1.md) - [Minimalist Demure Designer Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/backup-desk.md) - [Leaning Portable Workstation Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/leandesk.md) - [Floor-Sit Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uppeal-desk-lshaped.md) - [Humorous Quick Cleanup Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flip-desk-concept.md) - [Folding Multifunctional Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ignite-desk.md) - [Sleek Storage-Packed Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/threesix-desk.md) - [Dog-Friendly Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/agility-desk.md)
