Oregon State University scientists were looking for a substance that could be used in the manufacture of [wood composites](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/superwood) when they accidentally discovered an earth-friendly tape adhesive. The vegetable-oil-based adhesive can be used for duct tape, [packaging tape](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seal-draft-and-insulation), and other pressure-sensitive adhesive products.

Because the new earth-friendly tape adhesive does not use [petrochemicals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-ripple-shoe), is completely renewable and has the potential to capture market share in the $26 billion adhesive industry, OSU has applied for a patent on the technology and is seeking a business partner.
